Fallback Images

Have you ever thought about what images you seem to gravitate toward when you feel less than inspired? Or images that no matter where you are or what beauty surrounds you, you still feel compelled to capture these seemingly basic subjects? Another photographer chatted about this the other day, and had me thinking about some of my own “fallback images”.

FIrst of all, I am usually drawn to snapping images of interesting clouds in pretty light at all times of the day. I will even take them with my phone if it is the only camera I have.

Another classic capture is looking up at the tops of trees. This tends to happen more often in the fall but anytime I find myself in wooded areas, I love to look up and grab a shot.

Last but not least, I frequently capture bodies of water. Bonus points for pretty light, reflection, or amazing texture but I am rarely disappointed in even the most boring conditions. Because there is just something about the nature of water that captivates me.

So next time you are out and about with your camera and maybe you feel stuck with nothing to capture, just remember it doesn’t have to be an epic subject to snap an image. Beauty is everywhere if you just slow down for a moment to notice it.
